As Kane County continues to grow, so must a transportation system that keeps pace with the needs of our residents, businesses, and economy. That is why I support the Illinois Tollway’s proposed toll increase and the long-term investments it will make in the Interstate 88 and Interstate 90 corridors.
These tollways are more than roads; they are the economic backbone of Northern Illinois. Every day they connect workers to jobs, businesses to customers, manufacturers to suppliers, and agricultural producers to markets. Investing in their future is investing in the future of Kane County.
The proposed toll increase will provide dedicated funding to modernize bridges, improve interchanges, preserve roadways, and enhance safety and reliability throughout the tollway system. These improvements will reduce congestion, improve freight movement, and strengthen Kane County’s connections to the regional and national economy.
Reliable transportation is also essential to the continued success of Kane County’s major growth corridors along Randall Road, Kirk Road, Illinois Route 31, and Illinois Route 47. These areas continue to attract employers, manufacturers, healthcare providers, retailers, and new housing. Modern infrastructure gives businesses the confidence to invest, creates jobs, and strengthens our local tax base.
Just as important is planning for the future. One example is the Illinois Tollway’s long-range vision to explore “bus-on-the-shoulder” transit opportunities, including the continued evaluation of transportation hubs near Farnsworth Avenue and Illinois Route 47. While these concepts remain part of the Illinois Tollway’s future investment strategy and are subject to study, funding, and approvals, they offer exciting possibilities for expanding regional mobility and supporting future economic development.
If ultimately realized, these transit hubs would improve workforce access, reduce congestion on local roads, create new opportunities for transit-oriented development, and provide residents with additional transportation choices. Planning for these opportunities today helps ensure Kane County remains competitive for tomorrow’s jobs.
No one welcomes paying more, but quality infrastructure requires responsible, ongoing support. By investing today, we can preserve the safe, reliable transportation system that our residents and businesses depend on while preparing for future growth and economic opportunities.
The Illinois Tollway has played a vital role in Kane County’s growth for decades. Continued investment in its infrastructure—and thoughtful planning for tomorrow’s transportation needs—will keep Kane County a great place to live, work and do business.
