Dear editor;

The National Association of Letter Carriers Nationwide stamp out hunger food drive will be Saturday, May 11. It is the 27th annual event.

Why we do what we do: Tens of millions of Americans, including many elderly military veterans and children, are uncertain where they will find their next meals. Many turn to their community food pantries to help.

But that can be problematic in Summer when holiday donations largely have been depleted and school meal programs typically are not available.

That’s why pantries and the hungry look to letter carriers to deliver food to them.

The annual letter carriers food drive is held the second Saturday each May. It helps refurbish communities’ pantries, shelters, and churches nationwide from late Spring forward as long as the food collected lasts.

Last year, active and retired letter carriers, with help from thousands of volunteers, as well as NALC partners collected 71.6 Million pounds of food to bring the six-year total to more than 1.67 billion pounds collected.

This year we want to increase the number of donors. Please leave a bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox Saturday, May 11. Letter carriers will pick it up.
Thank you!
