To honor the service and contributions of women Veterans, State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, asks area residents to submit the names of outstanding female veterans to be recognized on the House floor later this month.

“Women veterans are trailblazers whose achievements deserve to be honored and recognized,” said Kifowit. “Upon their return home, many women’s military service leads to continued leadership in our communities, which is also well-deserving of recognition.”

According to the Veterans Health Administration, there are 2.2 Million living women veterans, with women representing 15% of today’s active duty military and 18% of guard and reserve forces. In celebration of Women’s History Month, Kifowit will honor the achievements of local veterans on the House floor Tuesday, March 26. Friends and family members are encouraged to submit a woman Veteran for recognition by contacting Kifowit’s Springfield office at 217-782-8028. Veterans may submit their own names. Kifowit will honor these individuals on the House floor, and they are invited to be present in the gallery to be personally recognized by the House of Representatives. Seating is limited, so reservations are required.

“Each woman who proudly defended our country has a unique story to tell, and I want to bring those stories to the Capital to be shared with others,” said Kifowit. “I encourage residents to submit the name of a female hero they know, so that we can recognize her service and express our gratitude.”
