Sweet treats will be raining from the sky at Faith Lutheran Church, in Aurora, when they again celebrate Easter by dropping candy stuffed plastic eggs from a helicopter, Saturday, March 30, the day before Easter. The event is open to children up to 12 yeas of age and we ask they bring their own basket. Doors open at 10 a.m. with the helicopter drop around 11 a.m., and prizes are given from special eggs dropped in the field.
The church is at 3000 Liberty Street in Aurora, corner of Liberty and Eola Road. Tickets are available at Eventbrite, and there is a cost for parking. There are shuttle buses from an off-site location to the church and back. Large crowds are expected again this year.
The idea of the helicopter drop comes with a sad story. In 2008, a young girl was being airlifted to a hospital when the craft went down in a field next to the church, killing all five persons on board. The company wanted to erect a memorial for the five at the crash site, but being forest preserve property, they were denied. However, the Church allowed a memorial on their property next to the site of the accident.
Pastor Rob Douglas said this is a community party to celebrate the resurrection and he hopes the neighbors will turn out for church Sunday morning. Services that morning are at 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m., and 9:30 a.m.
Volunteers will be on hand to steer the children into groups by age to collect the eggs! Afterward, a photographer will be on hand, or bring your own camera to see the Easter Bunny!
More than 12,000 eggs will be available, some 2,000 pouring from the sky delighting children of all ages, however, only those under 12 can collect eggs.
