The Aurora Public Library District Foundation will be host to its third annual Virtual 5K and encourage participants and supporters to Run Beyond the Beaten Path for Aurora kids.

The virtual 5K can be completed anywhere, at home on the treadmill, in a park, or at the gym. For those who prefer the outdoors, there are many places to run, hike or walk in Aurora. Participants are encouraged to choose one of the following locations, or pick their own scenic spot:

• Virgil Gilman Nature Trail, the trail head is accessible from Terry Avenue in Aurora.

• Oakhurst Forest Preserve, 1680 5th Avenue in Aurora.

• Aurora West Forest Preserve-Bring your four-legged friend with you to the dog park on Hankes Road

• Waubonsee Lake Park, 998 Kautz Road. Great for kids with playground, fishing and waterfront picnic pavilion in Aurora.

• Barnes Forest Preserve, 39W001 Prairie Street in Aurora. Walk along the overlook to enjoy viewing wildlife during your visit.

Participants are asked to snap a photo of themselves at the start or finish and submit it to the Foundation at foundation@
aurorapubliclibrary.org to show they have completed their runs.

Participants can sign up now at www.summer
adventure.givesmart.com and should complete their 5K anytime between July 17 and July 24. Registration will include a 5K Tee Shirt, participation medal, and goodie bag filled with fun stuff from businesses and sponsors.

APLD Foundation Manager, Laura Stoney, said the proceeds from the 5K will directly benefit children and families in Aurora by helping to provide literacy resources and tools to families in need through literacy packets and a new Bookmobile!
