No one likes to think about his or her death, but it is an inevitable part of life. That’s why it’s so important to have up-to-date documentation to make sure final wishes are protected. These documents give loved ones peace of mind knowing that everything is all ready taken care of. At the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) Sunday, April 23 we can learn more about Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning Basics with attorney Jacob K. Ehrensaft.

End of life planning is not just for those in their senior years. In the case of an untimely accident, wouldn’t you rather be prepared than have your family scramble with last-minute decisions during the grieving process? Having legal documentation in place protects your loved ones from a potentially-lengthy and expensive-probate process. Your assets will be protected from creditors, and you will have peace of mind knowing that your wishes will be carried out after you die. A will or trust can be provided for your loved ones and be customized to meet your specific needs with the help of an attorney.

Contrary to what you may think, it’s a simple process; many of us just don’t know where to start. That is why the Library has elected to be host to this program for a second time. “We held this program virtually in October and had a fantastic reception!” said Business Librarian Chris Biersdorf. “Naturally, we wanted to offer it again with the option to come in-person. As programmers, we try to be responsive to our customers’ interests.”

Biersdorf has set up a book display in the business section at the Santori Library of relevant titles in conjunction with Sunday’s program. At the program, there will be information for those who all ready have legal documents in place, but fear they are outdated. Your circumstances may change over time, so it is important to have the documents reviewed regularly to make sure they reflect your current wishes while complying with any changes in the law.

Having an up-to-date will or trust and assigning power of attorney are an essential part of estate planning. With the help of our presenter, attorney Jacob K. Ehrensaft, we hope you’ll walk away with a plan in place. Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning Basics will be held in-person at the Santori Library Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. and available to view virtually on Zoom.
