Montgomery Village attorney Steve Andersson, left, explains the legal aspect to Board members, including Village president Matt Brolley before a vote to amend the Village zoning ordinance regarding gas and petroleum manufacturing at the Montgomery Village Board meeting Monday. Two weeks prior, petitioners for a proposed $40 Million pyrolysis facility said the plant would help recycle scrap tires using a thermal distillation process by converting tire chips into carbon powder and liquid fuel under a vacuum seal and airlock. After research and discussion, trustees Denny Lee, Doug Marecek, and Theresa Sperling voted 3-1 against the amendment. They agreed while the technology is in use in Germany their concerns are for the references given by the interested entity and safety concerns for the residents and Aurora University’s $20 Million athletic facility next door to the proposed location. Trustee Steve Jungermann voted in favor. He said the facility would create jobs and petitioners weren’t given a fair shot. Jason Crane/The Voice

Restaurateur Steve Kapas and his mother, Pauline (Momma P.), describe their plans for a proposed restaurant, Monte Carlo Steakhouse and Bar, to the Plano City Council Monday. It is set to open in Plano in approximately six weeks. The Kapas family owned the Town and Country restaurant in Plano from 1947 to 2005. The property on U. S. Route 34 and West Street was given up to the State by eminent domain so it could be used to widen the highway. The Plano City Council met Monday at a special meeting and unanimously approved an additional Class E liquor license. The license is available for the proposed restaurant to go in the building at 209 West U. S. Route 34. The Kapas family purchased the building in 2005 which has remained vacant since then. Steve Kapas said they have tried hard to bring development to the Plano area with assistance from the City, but the development money hasn’t been flowing down Route 34 that far west, yet. He said restaurants have found difficulty in acquiring financing. The entire project, which will cost a little more than $1 Million, has been financed by the Kapas family. Jason Crane/The Voice

Ron Janusz, president, and Melinda Kruder, vice president of Support Companies, LLC, present information at the Rotary Club of Aurora meeting Monday at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora. They shared an update about the former Aurora Public Library building at 1 E. Benton Street in downtown Aurora which is home to Support Companies 24/7 contact center, training and product labs, IT and server operations, and administrative offices. The building was vacant for six months in 2015 with its fate in question, including possible demolition of the 42,000 square-foot Carnegie library. A Carnegie library is a library built with money donated by businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 Carnegie libraries were built between 1883 and 1929 in several countries. The 1 E. Benton location was a stop on the recent Illinois Solar Tour after solar photovoltaic panels were recently installed on the rooftop. The terms of the building purchase agreement included a price of $10 with $50,000 per year donations to the Aurora Public Library Foundation for a minimum of five years. The building was placed on public tax rolls for the first time, to benefit local taxing bodies, including the city of Aurora and East Aurora School District 131. Jason Crane/The Voice
