A Mayoral Commendation surprises Diane Renner, executive director of the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, at the Aurora City Council meeting Tuesday. She was expecting to speak about future events and was blindsided with the honor. Diane’s husband, Robin, gives her a pat on the back for her good deeds. Second from left is mayor Richard Irvin. The late Marie Wilkinson was a lifetime social and civil rights activist who fought against poverty, hunger, homelessness, joblessness, and injustice. She founded the Food Pantry in the 1950s after a near-death experience that caused her to make a personal commitment to helping the less fortunate.
