State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, was recently honored by the office of State treasurer Michael W. Frerichs with the Outstanding Commitment as an Elected Official Award. She took the opportunity to reflect on the impact of Women’s History Month in Illinois.

“Women’s History Month honors the self-evident truth that women are essential to progress and success in every aspect of our society. We never have been, and we never will be able to solve any of the daunting challenges our Nation faces if half the population is left behind,” said Kifowit. “I will never forget the trailblazing women leaders who inspired and supported me throughout my life, and who showed me that I could pursue a career giving back to my country and my community through public service.”

Kifowit was recognized as the Women’s History Month Award winner for Outstanding Commitment as an Elected Official by the Illinois State Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs’ Office as part of its continuing effort to celebrate Illinois’ diverse identity through its series of “Heritage Month Celebrations”.

“Today, we honor women who are educating our youth, creating jobs and inspiring others,” Frerichs said. “As treasurer, I have promoted national and regional efforts to promote corporate board diversity, including persuading companies to appoint more women to their boards.”

Kifowit added, “thank you to treasurer Frerichs for both your service to the people of Illinois, and for your office’s notable dedication to highlighting the diversity that makes up our great State. I look forward to continuing working with you to expand economic security for women and girls, to defend women’s human rights, and to ensure that in Illinois all people can reach their full potential.”

Although unable to attend the Wednesday, March 22 ceremony, representative Kifowit was honored and humbled to have been recognized by treasurer Frerichs for all her work advocating for the veterans in Illinois, and will receive the award in-person at a later date.
