We secured numerous felonies through the Kane County State's Attorney's Officeon a 45 year old Aurora man after executing a search warrant on Nov. 29. Samuel U. Jones of the 100 block of N. Farnsworth Ave. stands charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He is also charged with single counts of armed violence and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Three of the felonies are classified as Class-X and call for enhanced prison time upon conviction. The search warrant, which was executed at about 6:45 p.m. by members of our Special Operations, Community Policing and K-9 Units, resulted in the seizure of a handgun, almost eight grams of heroin, 29 ecstasy pills, over $1000 in cash and two vehicles. The contraband was all found either in the seized vehicles parked at his residence or in Jones’s possession. Jones is currently being held in lieu of $200,000 bail at the Kane County Jail. The charges are not proof of guilt. Jones is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Inaugural Winter on the Fox: Aurora’s RiverEdge Park is illuminated when the City of Aurora turns on the power of its first-year Winter on the Fox interactive light display to include special features such as larger than life-size ornaments, stars, gift boxes, and reindeer. Mayor Richard Irvin was joined by special guests to officially open Winter on the Fox during the community-lighting ceremony Friday. The ceremony included performances from high school choirs, a singing Santa Claus, and Will the Fire Flow Artist, a Metea Valley High School graduate. He helped warm up the night with an energetic fire routine including fire fans and blazing staffs. Eric Peterman, CEO of GRNE Solar, answers questions at the Montgomery Village Board meeting Monday. GRNE Solar is requesting approval for a special use permit to install solar panels on approximately 43 acres at 800 S. River Street. The power would be for the Fox Metro Reclamation District and could save taxpayers an extimated $160,000 per year. • A request was made for a special use permit for a Ricky Rockets fuel center at the Southwest corner of Orchard Road and Jericho Road. The proposed facility would be a gas station, car wash, convenience store, multi-tenant building and future out-lots, and hospitality use. The plan could be approved next month. • A property tax rebate in the amount of $45 will be mailed to each residential property owner who submits an application by December 17.
